Saturday's game against Newcastle NorthStars saw Adelaide get a much needed win. A game that was full of penalties for both sides, had no scoring in the first period. Swede Christopher Elf had another excellent game in goals as well as defender Bob Sannemo. The first goal was scored by Newcastle Casey Minson. But Avalanche didnt quit with American Kevin Crowder scoring a great goal from a sweet pass from Josh Harding behind the net.
The third period underway Peter Lindgren got a shot at the net and Kevin Crowder scored his second for the night. Josh Harding received a low hit and exited the game with a possible knee injury. Newcastle's Pier Martin equaled the score taking the game to another shoot out. Elf stopped each shot taken by Newcastle, and Peter Lindgren scored for the Avalanche to take the win.
Avalanche have a break now this weekend and return for another home game Saturday the 17th of May against Central Coast Rhinos and Sunday 18th play Penrith Bears.

In what billed as an early season test against the visiting Melbourne Ice our Adelaide Avalanche could only muster an opening period flurry followed by a two period flop.
Coming off a season opener win against Canberra the Avs came out of the gate by laying some heavy hits against the stunned Ice, the hit parade orchestrated by Chase Kinch was soon followed up by hits from Kevin Crowder and Josh Harding. With shots being few and far between by either team a physical presence was needed to force a high tempo. Unfortunately a quick bang, bang play by the Melbourne Ice led to a first period lead of 1-0 in which the Avalanche convincingly held the games pace.
The second period held no answers for the Avalanche as they struggled to generate any offence, while looking for anything to build on they only found them selves in the penalty box and at the conclusion of the second period saw the hole only getting bigger. Melbourne 2, Adelaide 0.
A late period fire fight on shots by the Avalanche was they only steady of offence the team was capable of organizing while the Ice once again found the back of the net to take a 3-0 lead and ultimately the final score.
Capable of so much more, the Avalanche looks to rebound against the Ice in the rubber match of their back to back games this weekend.

The Avalanche came out strong in the home opener beating the Canberra Knights 4-0. The Avs started the game strong generating a power play goal by James Keane, who sniped a shot from the bottom of the circle. The Avs controlled much of the play during the first period.
The Avalanche came out slow in the second as the injury to veteran forward, Cass Delsar, who broke his ankle on a freak play at center ice, was still on the mind of many players. The Knights generated many golden opportunities early in the second, but Avs goalie Christopher Elf ( Sweden) denied all attempts making some key saves in the process. The momentum returned to the Avalanche midway through the period when Keane scored his second goal of the night on the power play. Keane found himself in front of the net and received a stellar pass from Chase Kinch (Canada) who threaded the needle to get the puck to Keane. The period ended with Avs leading 2-0.
The Avs continued where they left in the 2nd with big man Brandon Williams firing a rocket from the point after a perfectly executed face off by Kinch. Kinch won the draw to rookie Andrew Zolotarev who moved the puck to Williams with players crashing the net. Peter Lindgren (Sweden) knotted his first career goal in the AIHL and the final goal for the Avalanche. Lindgren found himself in the slot and ripped a shot past the Knights goalie.
The Avalanche finished the game strong with Elf recording his first AIHL career shutout. Elf became only the 3rd goalie in Avs history to record a shutout.
The Avalanche will host Melbourne Ice next weekend for a double header Saturday and Sunday. Kevin Crowder
